Mount Charleston (Spring Mountains National Recreation Area)

A mountain escape 35 minutes from the Strip. Snow in winter, wildflowers in spring, 40 degrees cooler all summer.

Mount Charleston is the family escape hatch from Las Vegas summers. At 11,918 feet, it's about 40°F cooler than the valley on a hot summer day.

For families: the Cathedral Rock Trail is spectacular. Mary Jane Falls Trail goes to an actual waterfall (seasonal). In winter, Lee Canyon Ski Resort is just up the road.

Pro Tips

Download offline maps before you go — cell service is spotty. Afternoon thunderstorms July–September; start hikes early.
