Hemenway Valley Park
A small Boulder City park with a jaw-dropping secret — wild Desert Bighorn sheep walk right onto the grass almost every day. Kids go absolutely nuts for it. Free.
Most parks have signs asking you not to feed the wildlife. At Hemenway Valley Park, the wildlife just shows up. A herd of Desert Bighorn sheep — Nevada's state animal — descends from the surrounding mountains daily to graze on the park lawn. Some days it's a dozen; other days it's 40 or 60 massive, calm, curious sheep just hanging around on the grass like they own the place.
The park itself is a pleasant 10-acre spot with a playground, tennis courts, gazebos, and a beautiful view of Lake Mead. But let's be honest — you're there for the bighorns. Open dawn to 10pm, and it's completely free.
Pro Tips
The sheep come and go on their own schedule, but mornings are most reliable. Do NOT approach or feed them — watch from a respectful distance. Pair this with a stop at Boulder City for lunch on Nevada Way.
Best Time to Visit
Morning and late afternoon — when the sheep are most likely to graze on the grass.
